Flywheel energy storage systems built for the modern grid
From 250 kW to multi-megawatt, our hubless flywheel delivers full nominal power in under 10 milliseconds and sustains it for minutes. Designed for grid stability, power quality, and renewable integration.
What is a flywheel energy storage system
A flywheel energy storage system (FESS) stores electricity as the kinetic energy of a spinning rotor. When the grid needs power, the rotor releases that energy through a motor that operates as a generator. When power is available, the motor accelerates the rotor. Unlike batteries, a flywheel does not degrade with cycling, contains no flammable electrolyte and poses no thermal-runaway risk, and uses no critical raw materials such as lithium or cobalt. The Teraloop flywheel is hubless, magnetically levitated, and built for millions of charge and discharge cycles.
THE POWER LOOP RANGE
Power Loop 250
The Power Loop 250 patented technology, with its 250 kW of power, can serve different industries with very small installation space needed. Available as a plug-and-play solution for both AC and DC connection, the flywheel occupies less than 1 m2.
Power Loop 1000
The evolution of Teraloop´s hubless flywheel: increased power rating to 1000 kW and energy capacity fit in a compact solution, for applications requiring more power in less space. Available 2027.
Two platforms, one technology
Every Teraloop flywheel is built on the same hubless, magnetically levitated platform. The performance you can expect, regardless of size:

Where it fits
Six patterns where short bursts of high power, frequent cycling, or grid quality under pressure show up. Flywheel storage outperforms batteries and generators in each one.
Fast frequency response
Inertia and FFR without battery cycling cost.
Voltage and power quality
Protect sensitive loads from sags and swells.
Renewable firming
Absorb solar and wind variability at source.
Hybrid with batteries
Extend BESS life in FCR-N use, increase total uptime.
Industrial UPS
Keep processes running, no flammable chemistry.
Microgrid stability
Millisecond response for off-grid sites.
Proof in the field
FOOD AND BEVERAGE · AZORES
A factory eliminated production interruptions caused by voltage drops.
A dairy producer on Terceira in the Portuguese Azores, was losing dozens of batches a year to short voltage dips on the island's weak grid. A 100 kW Teraloop flywheel installed in April 2024 now catches those dips in 15 milliseconds, before production ever stops.
MANUFACTURING · POWER QUALITY
A plastic injection moulding plant stopped paying for the peaks it created itself.
A plastic injection moulding plant runs dozens of presses on different cycle times, creating load swings of hundreds of kilowatts in milliseconds. A containerised PowerLoop system (two PowerLoop 250 units, 500 kW combined) installed in December 2023 smooths those swings before they reach the meter, delivering more than €80,000 a year in direct savings.
